"Well," said the Queen, still reveling in her restored youth, "a deal is a deal, Belboz." She handed him a sack filled to the brim with gold coins. "I trust you'll find everything is in there. I must ask, how exactly does that spell work?"

"Well, it's not quite so easy as it seems," replied Belboz, testing the weight of the sack in his palm. "Somebody has to take on the years you shed."

  1. "Since necromancers age so slowly, I did that with virtually no effects."
  2. "I distributed them among everyone in the castle so that no one of them aged noticeably."
  3. "It's decided randomly; I have no idea what unfortunate soul took them on."
  4. "I've stored them in this bottle." He held up a flask filled with swirling violet mist. "As long as it remains closed and unbroken, no one has to take on the years inside it."
  5. Just then, a hysterical Ilsa reentered the room—looking rather older than she had before.
