"Belboz, thank heavens you are still here!" Ilsa cried. "Something terrible has happened to me! Can you undo it?" Ilsa had been the unfortunate recipient of the twenty-plus years that Jastina had lost, and now looked as if she was in her early forties. She was still quite attractive, but she had gained some wrinkles around her eyes and mouth, her cheeks had lost their youthful bloom, her hair had a few hints of grey, her waist and hips had gained a couple of inches, and the breasts that had previously needed no support would now definitely have benefited from the uplift provided by a corset or tight-laced bodice.

  1. Belboz told the truth, that he had been responsible for her ageing. He had needed someone to take the years that Jastina had lost, and she was expendible.
  2. Belboz lied, saying that he had no idea how it could have happened and that he was powerless to do anything about it.
