Perhaps it would have been sensible for Astra to have gone back to find
Fred and Velus at that point, but she was too intrigued by what she saw.
Who had put those ladders there? And why were there so many tunnels?
Selecting a ladder at random, she climbed
it, and started along the corresponding tunnel. It was damp, and as she
left the cavern behind it became increasingly dark. Soon she was having to
feel her way in total blackness.
