Into the Valley

As soon as they left the cave system and started back down the trail, their light-source dimmed completely. The fact that it hadn't disappeared seemed to indicate that it would probably be used again.

Fred and Astra now had to make their way down the precarious slope into the valley below. Taking it extremely slowly, they were able to descend without disturbing too many loose stones. The snake had wrapped its way around Astra's leg until they had reached the end of the pass. Since it would be more of a hinderance than usual, it had made its way down the slope of its own accord. It seemed to have the easiest time of it. Now at the valley's edge, Astra had to put up with it once more.

They started off on their journey, making goats run from their presence. The grass was more plentiful here, and so easier on the feet. There was also wildflowers, of a type neither Fred or Astra could name, but added a splash of colour to an otherwise unending sea of green. Blobs of colour on the mountains showed that they had made their home in the many cracks and crevasses. They heard birds, but this time could see them wheeling and gliding on the thermals far above their heads.
