The pair entered the pass as directed. It was wide enough for about six
people to walk abreast, so they had plenty of room. The grass under their
feet was short and fairly sparse - looking around, they could see why. On
the mountains on either side and in front of them were a number of wild
goats. These goats were more numerous than usual as they didn't have any
natural predators, such as lions or eagles. This small range of mountains
was truly unique in that respect. The bird population was also higher as a
result of that. Despite their number, many could be heard but not seen.
Those they did see were usually perched on the goats feeding on the ticks
and other parasites.
