There were several tunnels that led off from the one he was travelling through. Fred investigated each one in turn. However, each terminated in a cavern that were apparently empty, which was both good and bad. Good as it meant that were no creatures to fight. He was no coward, it was just he wanted to be in good health for his confrontation with the dragon which he was confident would happen. As time wore on, however, as all he encountered was short tunnels and empty caverns, he was tempted to sheath his sword which he had unsheathed before entering the left entrance.
