Alura's Evil Plan for the Scepter Of All That Is Good

"Probably," Astra said, looking grim. "It's very powerful. It needed to be, in order to be able to defeat evil. In the wrong hands..." She left the sentence unfinished.

"Wouldn't Demwit and Arrogint have taken the Scepter away with them when they left the island?" Fred suggested.

"No," Alura said. "Samwhich and Frodolicous used it to defeat the evil, but were themselves killed in doing so. The power unleashed was so great that it caused the volcano to erupt - obviously this very volcano - and therefore the others couldn't get near to rescue the Scepter. So it must still be here somewhere, probably not very far away from these skeletons."

"If we find it, would it be safest to destroy it?" Fred asked. "Or should we try to keep it safe, so that it can be used again the next time that the evil comes forth?"

"Neither," Alura responded. "Like I said, we should use it to make ourselves rulers of the world. If you three don't want to do that, it's fine by me. I'm quite happy to rule on my own. In fact I'd prefer it."

"Would the power of the Scepter get us off this island?" Velus wanted to know.

"Yes, it would," Astra said, "but..."

1. "I'm not interested in your buts," Velus said. "Alura, I'm with you."
2. "But it's too dangerous to be used," Velus finished the sentence for her. He sighed. "I suppose you're right."
