Alura kneeled by them. "Hmmm. Adult, obviously. But shaped all wrong. And one is missing a finger!"
She turned to the others. "Do you know what this means?"
Velus looked at her. "Nope."
"We've found the island of Tutagora!"
Even illeterate commoners have heard of Tutagora. It was the source of all evil, or so the legend goes. Every five hundred years, a boatload of the purest in the land set out to find the island and battle the evil therein. Last time, some four hundred years ago, two of the lost were the halflings, Samwhich and Frodolicous. The survivors, well, Demwit and Arrogint (the others were in a mental hospital) told of how the two halflings faced down the evil itself and with the power of the fabled Scepter Of All That Is Good, destroyed it for another five hundred years.
Fred scratched his chin. "What about the finger? The tale told mentions it not."
"Oh, I researched it for high school. It was lost in a poker game with a drunk barbarian. He slammed his beer down much too hard on the wrong spot...it was grisly. Blood shot out everywhere, the halfling was in the hospital for a week due to blood loss."
"Go on..." said Astra, fearing what her sister might do next.

  1. "We must find the Scepter! With it, we can rule all!"
  2. "We must destroy the Scepter by coating it with the blood of a virgin." Fortunately Velus fit the bill.
  3. Alura finds the Scepter under some rocks and runs off with it.
  4. Turns out some mistakes were made in the math and the boatload of pure-hearted warriors shows up on the beach far below.
