Approaching the Knights

Reluctantly, Amy let Nigel go, feeling chilly instead of his leathery hide. Even though she'd
managed to face the many dangers of the kragon's caves without fear, she was afraid now,
even though she knew that there were no dangers she could not face in the forest. The four
knights might prove a danger to her in combat without Nigel, but she was far more used to
navigating through the dark forest, and she could easily evade them and find Nigel. But she
had never been alone since she'd teamed up with Nigel. She was afraid of being alone, and
the forest made her feel even more alone.
With her sharp sense of hearing, she carefully sought noises that might be made by humans among the many noises of the forest. Traveling in the direction the knights had taken, she soon heard the noise of a crackling fire. No doubt the knights had set up camp near here. As she approached she could see the knights clustered dourly around the fire, except for the handsome young wizard or whatever, who seemed almost joyful. He was watching the shadows curiously--for her, perhaps? She was making sure not to be seen, but suspected he knew she was here. This frightened her even though she knew he was the one who posed her the least danger. As Amy approached the cam, she was filled for the first time in a very long time with real fear for her life. She had left her bow and arrow behind with Nigel, tied to his side with ropes that she'd stolen from the dragon's minions long ago. They would be useless at close range and an encumbrance when trying to escape, and beside it would be better if she came in peace at first. Now, though, she was not so sure.
