Amy dried the lighter on her sweatshirt as well as she could, and then tried to produce a flame. To her pleased surprise, on the third attempt she was successful. Igniting the driftwood directly was not practical, but she managed to set fire to a piece of dried-up seaweed and then used that to set the driftwood ablaze. Then she and the knight dragged Amy 2 and Rami as close to the blaze as seemed safe.

"I expect they're going to be hungry if - when - they come round," Amy 1 said, making a mental note that she must try to think positively. "Come to that, I could do with some food myself. But there seems to be nothing to eat here except seaweed."

"Don't discount the seaweed," Fred replied. "I've heard that some sorts are edible. But we would need some fresh water to wash it in. Otherwise it would be far too salty - not to mention sandy. In any case, we will need to find a source of fresh water to drink."
