That day, Ryu the Author - better known to his comrades by various four-
letter words combined with "-head" - was enjoying one of his favourite
self-absorbed hobbies. His massive girth precariously straddling the
creaking chair in front of his roommate's computer, Ryu slurped at his
Doritos Nacho Cheesier stained fingers and clicked on the next episode in
the now-long list of episodes written by himself. Laughing uproariously
at his own dry wit, he checked each one to see if anyone had shown their
deep love, admiration and respect by extending any of them. Finally he reached the Attackur thread and winced. Ryu always hated this thread, for reasons he himself never fully understood. "I know why," he finally thought "its because of the terrible things a fellow author endured within the game world whilst I sat safe at home. Well, I'll fix this right now! Hang on, Betty! I'm coming! I'll save you from that evil Mr. Freganosian!" He took a thoughtful sniff of glue, cracked his knuckles and rammed his head into the computer screen. However, it did not have the desired effect. Instead of being sucked into the game, Ryu broke the monitor, was electrocuted and passed out on the keyboard. This resulted in a long string of random characters being perpetually entered into the "create episode" window...
"What's going on?!" Betty cried as the world around them dissolved into a terrifying cyclone of meaningless gibberish. "Oh no!!" Bill Gates exclaimed. "This is a catastrophe!! Who would've imagined that such a long running thread would fall victim to this kind of vandalism!!" "It's the work of one of those jerks who extend episodes with strings of random characters!" Betty said. "But something is wrong... it should've stopped by now! No one is tenacious enough to press random keys on a keyboard for this long!" "SOMEONE SAVE US!!!" Attackur shrieked. "Don't worry, everyone." Bill Gates said as Fred and Astra screamed and Velus howled along with Attackur. "This can't go on forever. As they say, a thousand monkeys at a thousand typewriters..." As he spoke the swirling letters roared and spun and whipped around them with the fury of a tornado, becoming stronger and stronger until it suddenly hurled the adventurers into some very different literary worlds.
