Alone on the Marie Celeste

Well, what a strange dream that was! Andrea thinks. Then she
becomes aware that the ship is unusually
quiet. There are none of the usual sailors' shouts to be heard, nor any
noise from
the other passengers. Searching the ship, she soon realises that she is
the only
person left on board the Marie Celeste, as the ship happens to be named.
All but one of the ship's
boats are gone. Why would everyone have abandoned a seaworthy ship in calm
weather?
And why did they leave her sleeping on deck and not wake her?
The ship is a large one, and there is no way that she could sail it all by herself, even if she had the knowledge to do so. All she can do is wait for the wind and current to eventually bring the ship to land - she hopes. At least there is plenty of food and water aboard, so she won't die of hunger or thirst. On her twentieth day alone, she at last sees something other than empty ocean ahead:
