"The conduit's somewhere down here on the dungeon level?" Jarlath asked,
as they followed Carola, who still had her eyes shut. Presumably she was
somehow locating the conduit with her mind, whilst avoiding being
distracted by what she would see in the ordinary way.
"Yes," she replied. "Not far now. You should be able to see it soon." Sure enough, just after Carola had spoken, she led them round a corner, and a pulsing sphere of reddish light some two feet across came into view. It was hanging motionless in mid-air. There was no obvious reason why it should be where it was, rather than somewhere else. There was no sign of any guards, or of any other protective measure. "That must be it," Jarlath said. "You can open your eyes now, Carola." "I may no longer be very bright," Belinda said, "but for us to find this conduit thingy so easily, and with nothing to protect it, strikes me as very suspicious." "Since there isn't any salt to be had, maybe Vaeren thinks no-one can harm it," Jarlath suggested. "But perhaps we have a secret weapon. Carola, can you use the power of the Pyramid against it?"
