Three hours later, Scott was driving a car in the middle of nowhere. It
had been said that civilization hadn't yet come to the area he was driving
through, aside from the two-lane highway bisecting it. The previous three
hours had been been a blur, and Scott could only remember bits and pieces
of it: getting dressed, showering, and helping Krissy wrap Roger's corpse
in enough garbage bags to completely conceal it. Scott, without even thinking, had decided to help Krissy dump Roger's body somewhere in the wilderness after she accidentally killed him that morning with a golf club. In the heat of madness, the possibility that Krissy could've beaten the rap after it was determined to be a justifiable homicide seemed to disappear from both Scott and Krissy's minds. Instead, he chose to make what was definitely the biggest mistake of his life. Scott reckoned he could at least justify it by saying he was caught up in the moment, but down the road, he would have to live with this decision for the rest of his life. Krissy sat in the passenger seat, staring straight ahead, having uttered maybe ten words since they had gotten in the car. Scott couldn't see her eyes, so he couldn't tell if she was crying or not.
"Krissy?" As they drove on, Badfinger's "Baby Blue" played softly on the car radio. A few more hours later, Roger's body found its (temporary?) resting place deep within a forest that even the most courageous hiker would've had second thoughts about going through. For a moment, after the corpse had crashed through the underbrush, and found its way down a pretty deep hole, Scott had sworn he had seen Krissy start to smile. As they made their way back to the clearing where their car had been parked, Scott finally spoke up.
"So...was that a smile back there?"
