"I don't suppose that this Fred character is anywhere around here," Fred said, trying to sound as nonchalent as possible. "If I were you, I'd forget all about him. It's not worth the hassle. Think of the effect on your blood pressure. Why don't you 'freak' - as you so amusingly put it - with Astra, instead? She's not having an affair with me, honest. She was just treating me."

Lots' eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Treating you to what?" he asked.

"He means medical treatment, you dummy," Astra said. "I'm the ship's doctor, remember? Your hoodlums beat him black and blue, and I've been patching him up."

  1. "My pirates are not hoodlums," Lots objected. "You say the cruellest things." Then he burst into tears.
  2. Astra went on: "I think it's time for your medication, Lots. That will calm you down."
  3. Astra went on: "By the way, he suggested that I should hop off at the next harbor and find myself someone else. I think that sounds like a jolly good idea."
