Before setting out on the search, Fred and Astra had sought out their long
discarded swords and Velus his dagger, for the previously safe island now
suddenly seemed a very dangerous place. However eighteen months in a humid
tropical climate without being polished had meant that their armour had
rusted too much to be wearable; all the joints had seized up. Thus only
Alura was what one could describe as anything like respectably dressed,
and even her clothes were rather tattered after six months on the island.
After two hours of searching, everyone was beginning to feel frustrated by their failure to find the Shaolin monastery, which might be hidden anywhere on the twenty miles by seven island. If they had never stumbled across it in eighteen months on the island, how could they hope to find it quickly now? Astra was starting to feel not just frustrated but panicky. Would Frieda be all right? Her feed was now several hours overdue. Would Josh have been able to provide her with suitable milk? Her mood was not helped by her breasts increasingly feeling uncomfortably full. "Let's go this way," Alura said. "No, this way," Fred responded. "We should split up," Velus suggested. "We could search much more efficiently that way." Astra found her companions' argument the last straw. "Aarrrgghh!" she screamed.
