To the Aid of Tarsa

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 44810

The coach was still flying down the road at full speed. Having dispatched the driver, Fred attempted to bring the horses to a halt even as he banged on the carriage door. The half-dozen supposed Blue-Cloaks who had been escorting the coach on horseback were riding slightly ahead, and had not yet noticed what had happened to their colleagues who had been riding in the coach, though Fred knew that could not last for long.

When Tarsa screamed for help, he decided that the horses would have to look after themselves. He swung down onto the running board, wrenched the door open and plunged inside.

It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the comparative gloom within the carriage. When they did, he saw that Satrina was slumped across one seat, either unconscious or dead. On the opposite seat, Tarsa was struggling for her life. The "Pope" had a knife in his right hand, and he was attempting to sink it into her breast. She had both hands clasped around his wrist and was trying with all her strength to resist his knife- stroke. The "Pope's" left hand was around her throat. If he did not succeed in stabbing her, then he might yet throttle her.

  1. One blow of Fred's sword dispatched him.
  2. When he saw Fred, he turned into a black man-shaped cloud before dematerialising altogether.
  3. Just then, the uncontrolled coach crashed over on its side.

JH (How did the bad guys know where Fred and Tarsa would turn up, in order to mount their deception? Or was the deception intended for somone else, and Fred and co were accidental victims of it?)
