Fred's Last Attempt

He focused all his remaining energy in hitting that slowly disappearing chink in the monster's armour and again leapt into the air crying "Omega Lightning Slash!"

Mystical energy again surrounding his sword, he hit his intended target. Letting out an unearthly scream the One Shoggoth exploded, covering everything in slime, internal organs, and all other kinds of icky stuff. Fred collapsed to the floor and laid still, his sword clanking to his side, magical residue surrounding it soon dying out.

Giving himself a good shake, Velus managed to get most of the icky stuff off him before going over to Fred. Whining softly, Velus tried to get a reaction out of Fred by licking his face. There was nothing. Thinking Fred was dead, Velus began howling out his grief.

Was Fred really dead?

1. Yes. That final effort had proved too much for him.
2. No. He was unconscious, but Velus' howling made him stir.
3. No, but he had gone into a coma.
