Spock decided that it would be best to mind-meld with Stacy. After all, he'd mind-melded with
her earlier during a previous mission, so he could compare the current state of her mind with
that of a few weeks ago. (He was also somewhat put off by the Betty's behavior--no sane person
would enjoy a mind meld.) "Ms. Jones," said Spock, "a mind meld is a Vulcan procedure that will
temporarily allow me to read your mind. It can often be somewhat painful and unsettling, but it
will probably do no damage."
"Well, all right," said Stacy uneasily. "But I do have some kind of amnesia, if that would cause any problem. "I do not think so," said Spock. "I simply wish to ascertain the truth of your claims." He put his hands on Stacy's temples. Stacy did her best to relax. "My mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts," he said.
