Before long Fred and Astra came round.
They had had medical treatment, which meant that physically they were now
largely recovered,
but of course had not yet undergone their interrogation. They seemed to be
in some sort of dormitory,
or perhaps a hospital ward. Apart from themselves the room was empty.
"Clothes!" said Astra, seeing an outfit draped over the end of her bed. Then her face fell. "It's a dress," she said disgustedly. "I haven't worn a dress since I was six. I'm not wearing that." "Please could you do so for my sake?" asked Fred. "I'd much prefer it." "Well, if you promise not to tell anyone back home," said Astra. "Promise," said Fred. So Astra donned the knee-length red dress. Fred thought she looked rather good in it, though she was clearly less than happy. "Anyway, I'm not wearing those fancy shoes," she said. "If I can't wear sandals or boots, I'd sooner go barefoot." The only door from the room was securely locked, and there were no windows. The room was lit by glowing glass bulbs - magical devices of some sort, Fred and Astra assumed. A little later, the door was unlocked, and some of the HiB (Humanoids in Black) entered. It was interrogation time.
