"...All right," said Fred, after ruminating for some time. "While it is true that some mages
can create illusions that feel as convincing as they look, there's nothing to suggest yet that
this is an illusion rather than just an experience so bizarre that it cannot be understood by
mortals. It's likely that you and Velus are real and even that this mad land around us is
real." He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I still don't remember you, though, so one of us
has to be mistaken."
Astra smiled warmly. "Maybe there's hope for you yet. From what I remember, it took you quite a while to learn to apologize when you'd been wrong. I'm sorry I hit you." "I understand, my lady." Astra giggled. "My memories tell me that we agreed years ago that you didn't have to call me 'my lady.' It sounds a bit silly, especially from... from one I've known as long as you." "I understand my--Astra. So, I still have yet to... to answer the call of nature. I would prefer a secluded place to do this, so I do not have to offend you." "Oh, it would be no problem if you just urinated outside, especially as there seems to be no one living here. You've seen me naked hundreds of times, you know." Fred was a little taken aback. "Wait, you mean we've--" Astra burst out laughing. "I meant that when you first met me I was naked and chained to the wall. It took several weeks together until you found clothes for me. And anyway, we're..." Fred was beginning to feel uneasy. "We're what?" Astra sighed. "From what I can remember, at least, we're married." Fred's jaw dropped. "Married? MARRIED?" Suddenly, Velus ran through the tall grass towards them. "Hey guys!" he shouted. "I managed to find a water closet or whatever you call that fancy thing you nobles pee in! It's in that room over there!" He ran off back to the strange structure and the other two followed him dubiously. He ran excitedly around a room with sigils of idealized male and female forms on the door. "I found it 'cause that's the part of this weird building where I smelled the most urine, see." The others looked at him dubiously. "See, I was a dog for several years and even after I got turned back into a human, I kept some cool dog powers, like I can smell better and I'm good at biting people and stuff." Tired of all this strangeness, Fred tried to open the bathroom door and finally relieved himself.
