Consequences...

"What happened?" Henri asked.

The sergeant's report was short and to the point. "The lady was able to sneak up on Private Reynard, sir. Reynard's shout alerted Private Laboone. Laboone almost shot the lady, sir."

"I thought you said those were your best men, sergeant?" Henri queried.

The NCO sighed and nodded. "I know I did, sir." He looked embarrassed for a few seconds. "First time my judgement's been wrong."

Henri smiled and put a friendly hand on the sergeant's shoulder.

The sergeant continued, "Reynard's been let off with a warning. Laboone would have got the same, but because he nearly hit the lady he's getting a couple of days in the slammer. So that means he won't be available for practise."

"That's unfortunate," Henri replied, his smile disappearing briefly. "I'll have to make sure he does extra to catch up with the others when he gets out."

The sergeant gave a small smile himself before asking, "Is there anymore practise, sir?"

Henri shook his head. "No, that will be it for now," he replied.

Saluting smartly, the sergeant went off shouting at his men. They got into line behind him and marched towards the fort.

Henri studied Astra who didn't seem the slightest put out by her close encounter with death. Remarkable! he thought. There's definately more to her then meets the eye.

Because of the incident Henri had decided to cut short the training, so for once he was at a bit of a dead end. "Was there anything else you wanted to do?"

Astra replied:

1. "Could we go hunting?"
2. "I would like to practice more with the crossbow."
3. "Not really. Though I've been longing to know where exactly I am."
