Fred Succeeds

Fred ran around trying to locate the fire's starting point. It wasn't too long before he came across the blackened remains where the fire had appeared to have started. Though the fire on the ground had gone out, there was a tree that still smouldered. Fred would have to be quick before the dying flame finally went out. He made it, just, but he had to be careful on the return journey as his running could quite easily cause the fledgling flame to be snuffed.

During this time, Astra had created a small clear area where they could have a fire without worrying about setting the surrounding grass alight. She had arranged the remaining driftwood into a pile as best she could and waited for the return of Fred.

Though his return had of necessity been slower, Fred was still a bit out of puff. It had been quite a distance between them and the wildfire, and Fred was feeling a bit out of shape.

He handed the driftwood he was carrying over to Astra, and she tried to start a fire while he recovered his breath. It took a few minutes, but soon Astra had one started. Perhaps not surprisingly, part of the drift wood had been long and thin, ideal for spearing the fish and thus for making sure it was evenly cooked. Soon they were both tucking away. Fred said he'd never had that sort of fish before.

1. Soon the sun was blocked out by gathering clouds and heavy drops of rain began to fall.
2. They finished their meal and had a drink from the lake.
