Aboard the Vogon Ship

"No, they're not elves," Ford says in his typical worldly-wise fashion. "No such thing. They're Alvorens from Rigel V - aren't you?"

Artizza stifles a giggle. "No, we're not. Your friend is quite right, we're elves. Well, proto-Dark Elves, if you want to be pedantic about it. Perhaps we ought to introduce ourselves. I'm Artizza, and this is my husband, Fertal. The fair-haired man is Cuthbert Allgood, and the woman next to him is his wife, Joan." It's Joan 2, to be precise, but Artizza doesn't want to confuse Arthur any more than he already is. She carries on: "The two at the end, whom you may not have spotted yet, are yet another married couple, the demifoxes Edward and Andrea Solomon." Had Artizza been precise she would have said "Andrea 2a".

Arthur does another double take when he sees the demifoxes, and even Ford is rendered silent for a moment, never having seen any races that are even remotely similar.

He is silent only for a moment, though, Ford being Ford and irrepressible.

1. "You must be more hitchhikers," he says to the Champions. "Where are you headed for?"
2. "Are those races, proto-Dark Elves and demifoxes, in the Guide?" he asks. "If not, I expect I can arrange for your inclusion. I'm a researcher for it, you see."
