Astra had been trying to think of some way to escape. The only idea that
she could come up with seemed unlikely to work, but it couldn't hurt to
try it.
She waited until she judged it was well past midnight. Everyone in the camp was asleep, apart from her own guard and - she guessed - a few other men guarding the site's perimeter. "I've really got to go," she told the guard. "Can't you free me just for a minute or two to do my business? You can keep an eye on me and no-one need know." The guard smiled at her euphemism. "You'll just have to piss where you stand," he said. "In fact I'd have thought that you would have had to do so already, unless you've got remarkable bladder control." "I'm not talking about that," Astra said. "I need to take a dump. It must be because of how frightened I've been. If I have to do it here, it won't be very pleasant for you for the rest of your shift, what with the smell."
