"Watch," he said. "You may be surprised."
The armoured monstrosity had apparently finished playing around with Astra
and aiming strikes that Astra was just about able to avoid. Just as well,
as one hit would've been quite able to slice her in two. But then the surprise came. The monster lumbered a few steps more when suddenly a portion of the floor came away and the creature was plunged into the darkness. Astra by this time was too worn out to display any sort of feeling and slumped in a heap on the floor. Stacy herself was extremely worried about her new friend. She turned to Minestus, her face contorting as if she was uncertain about what to express. And it took awhile for what had just had happened to sink in. His face unreadable, Minestus said, "I told Astra that there would be plenty of monsters and traps. I did not however say that all the traps were for her." By this time Stacy was slightly more composed. Minestus had gestured for the screen to go blank. A few minutes passed before Stacy said anything. "Astra's not going to do die, is she?" Her face turned hopeful. "Of course she'll survive, she's a tough girl, that one," Minestus replied in a cheerful tone. I won't say it, but Astra's no use to me dead. Let's stick with fear with this one. Anger can come later. A small smile passed his lips all but unnoticed by Stacy whose was now glad her friend would be all right. Though she is rather lovely to look at when she smiles. A bit more of that would never go amiss. Then he frowned slightly as he inwardly chastened himself. I mustn't have feelings like this! Curse these emotions of my human form. Turning back to Stacy he said, "I am feeling rather weary and am going to retire. I must ask you to return to your room where you will find the books are now in your own language. I have also seen fit to assign you a servant who will attend to your needs, within reason." With that, he left the room.
