Best for the Bear

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 44023

"Let the others tell you about this one lion we met earlier," Fertal begins. "His name was Aslan."

Yes, that majestic creature, Aslan, was a wonder to behold even while he’d still been still somewhat out of it when he’d joined with our group back on Narnia (re: 36114) Grace and strength . . . Something that I believe that if not immediately upon becoming a champion like that (might be wrong but we’ve come to believe that Aslan was probably a Champion for the Angels), he would grow into it over time.

Best thing that the bear could do for himself, join up and do that…

IF he gets that choice. We’re not sure of exactly anything like that will be an option, but we can hope, eh?

It does sadden my Fertal that the bear is making noises about now joining up with another Office and not Eternity Inc, but then again we’d all (finally) agreed it would perhaps be for the best.

Think that Fred the bear could be made to feel like he fit into our family, but not totally fit in with the world of Terra Prime at large, alas…

The bear knows it, from what I can hear in his voice (I think, the magical voice is kind of . . . . flat despite the mage’s best efforts) also knows that but still kind of wishes . . .he could fit in. That he could join up with us and the rest of the family…

Oh my, but then again it is probably for the best he chooses what he chooses at the end of Fertal’s discussion with him.

We ride the rest of the way to yet another bolt hole to camp out for the night in silence. Not exactly happy but not exactly sad we are. Believe the proper term for it would be "bittersweet”, really.

But that or no, we land and place Fred the bear back into a block. We release my elfin sister of the woods to help her do her magic so we can have at least one last night of rest before we make the final run for Wallants (Wallents or whatever) tomorrow. That done, we change her back. We do so we can at least (my husband and I) speak with the quicksilver skinned ex-dancer. Being that most of the other former dancers are female, we’ll go with the female gender for now on, just for convenience.

Not like we can speak with her (him or whatever, we haven’t had time to determine this person’s exact. . . gender) while in flight by magic carpet. Mages tell me that whatever shape the mercury dancer takes, the same mass is kept in the process. Mass that is considerable, too considerable to think about straining our barely adequate spare carpets into carrying. Might have (barely) managed it with the originals, but not now.

We stand somewhat back when we wave the detector wand at her block because we’re not exactly sure what will happen once she’s back amongst the living, as it were. Why? Well, we’d known that her form shifted on the hour, every hour when she’s forced to dance in that courtyard. We’re not sure if that still applies here with her, now. Oh, she’d shifted (or should I say her form had shifted against her will) her form soon upon her release (re: 42702), changed from a fox Manimal that I swear could have passed for Fred the Manfox (except for the silvery skin) into a unicorn centauress (who’s upper half had looked liked Hannah in human form and who’s lower form like her in unicorn form). That meant that at least the compulsion had still been upon her then.

Now? Not sure at all if she’s going to continue doing that or it had been a last gasp!

  1. For all we know she’ll, upon becoming flesh again, go through a flurry of transformations to make up for lost time!!
