"John," I explain. "See, they’re trying to figure out just who transformed Miranda from clues she gives off. The way she ended up, if she really has been transformed . . ."

Not sure I agree with this Miranda being a victim of transformation magic. After all, I might be a VERY talented beginner (just managed to cast my first cantrip this morning) so I’m not totally out of line by saying that. I at least know the basics of magic (now). And given the rather hectic schedule we’d been running here (trying to do a Quest on top of everything else), I’d almost say it was a miracle (if I believed in that religion dren).

Odd, really. It’s like Sigin (my teacher) knows just exactly how best to convey a lesson. Keep me interested on the subject matter. And that’s only due in part that my sister and he are . . . you know. . . Magic! I mean, magic is the dradest thing I’ve ever done (wow!) but . . . Sure wish that when I’d been growing up the teachers had been even half as interesting as this dragon! Still would have ended up where I am (I am so VERY not a conformist), but the journey would have been . . . different.

Well, to give Crichton his dues I can see where he’d had no clues. Some of the things that Sigin shared with me as a fellow family member (that’s how he and the others view each other: family!) about some of the more . . . personal details at what has befallen some members of Eternity Inc. Namely, what has happened to various Freds and Astras. Things that he did not wish to bring up such matters to outsiders.

Yes, you probably could "dig it up" on the Net, but still . . .

I can see where Sigin’s coming from so I won’t share the details here. Not only is it kind of embarrassing, it’s also a bit too long. But when Fred, Astra, or maybe another Eternity Inc member is involved there seemed to be trends on the name of those who’d been involved (in one way or another). Like I’d said before, I’m not sold on the idea that Miranda is a transformee (Fred or otherwise). I’ve seen enough mind frelled people (damn near had become one) to know the signs. Just because she has memories of somewhere (and someone) else doesn’t mean transformation. After all, of all the people we’ve picked up on this current Quest the only one who had been changed (no doubt on it, nobody could have been that stupid naturally, and even THAT might be reversible) was "Suzie" !

See where I’m coming from? Yeah, I know that in part (I’m not blind, thanks) that Elrondir had been trying to change the subject a bit (in part) to something that didn’t bring up uncomfortable memories for Ragan.

Hm, then again . . . Elrondir was friends with this Gilmuriel (a Fred transformee) for over ten cycles . . . years. That might . . .

No, I’m not going to start second guessing myself. I’m just saying that Miranda here just doesn’t strike me as being a transformed person in addition to having been mindfrelled in some manner.

I say as much and the others (the Doctor and the other Companions) agree with me.

Hm, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, I believe I’ll like this new place . . .

Anyway, I’ve said my piece. Might as well let the others say theirs . . . After all, they’d actually listened . . .

I can see how you mage types are playing Dick Tracy and all that with Miranda here and I can see where you’re coming from, pointing out that this suspicion might be groundless. But what I still don’t understand . . . . Are you saying that shit like this happens enough the same way for you guys to be able to tell . . . you know! Shit like what happened to Suzie and stuff . . . "

Hm, I do believe that he’s kind of uncomfortable!
