It's Quicker by Tube

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 4312

Astra gently made contact with the side of the pit as it began to slope inwards, her armour making a terrible screeching noise against the rock. Soon she found herself sliding helplessly down a 60 degree incline. She realised that she was becoming uncomfortably warm; the friction with the rock must have heated her armour. The walls narrowed in on all sides, and she found herself in a tube some ten feet in diameter. The tube wall emitted a dim glow that allowed her to see this, and also that the wall now appeared to be perfectly smooth (so that the screeching noise had died away). Fortunately all the larger rocks seemed to have gone down an alternative tube. She shared this one with only a few pebbles which posed no threat.

Astra had the uncomfortable idea that someone had arranged all this for her. She was sure that her trip had not been a pure accident. What was she going to face at the bottom of the tube? And would her armour still be in a fit state to wear after its rough treatment, or would she have to discard it?

  1. Astra's slide came to an abrupt end.
  2. Astra gradually slowed to a stop as the incline of the tube steadily diminished
