What's gotten into Astra? Fred wondered. She never used to act like a madwoman.

Just then the woman on the bed stirred and opened her eyes. When she saw Astra and Fred looking down at her, she scowled. "You need to learn some manners, young lady," she told Astra. "I take you and your companion into my tower, and provide you with shelter and clothes, and what thanks do I get? You tear the clothes that I've given you and then you knock me out."

"I'm sorry," Astra said. "You see..."

The woman held up her hand for silence. "I am not interested in your apologies," she said. "Your behaviour merits a punishment to teach you a lesson. You caught me by surprise when you attacked me, but as a powerful sorceress I can impose a suitable punishment on you...

1. "You shall be my servant for a year and a day."
2. "It's back out into the desert for you, without any clothes."
3. "Perhaps you would be less aggressive if you were only five feet tall and weighed 100 pounds."
4. "I curse you to wear no clothes for a year and a day."
5. "Unless you can convince me that you are truly sorry."
6. But before the lady can finish the sentence...
