“Wow, first you think I’m made of books and then you kick this poor
lady,” Fred scolded the princess. “What’s gotten into you, Astra?” “I don’t like people sneaking up behind me,” she defended, adding she'd only done what her instinct dictated. “Well what’s next? Soon you’re going to be telling me you think the old men in those paintings are laughing at you.”Astra shrugged. “They do seem kind of amused.” “They’re paintings! You are a crazy person. Crazy crazy crazy.” “Look, I’m sorry. It must be the all that exposure to the desert heat.”“From now on I’m calling you ‘Crazy Astra’.” “I hardly think that’s necessary...”“Come, Crazy Astra, we must see to this lady’s injuries. I think you broke a couple of her ribs.” Astra bent down to examine the middle-aged woman, and quickly surmised that she’d merely knocked the wind out of her. Her breathing was still steady, and there didn’t appear to be any signs of broken bones. They carried her back to the bed Astra arrived on, Fred taking her by the arms and Astra her legs. Along the way, Fred removed one of the many books that lined the wall and placed it atop his head. “Look, I’m a book monster!” he teased, growling mockingly. “Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you, right!? At least if they're not printed! I was always knew it was dangerous for women and books to mingle, but who would've known... ”“Shut up, Fred.”
