Andrea's story certainly sounded odd, but Rowena's brother Fred had been through far
stranger. On the other hand, she herself had said that he memories of how she ended up
here were strange and distorted and seemed like mad hallucinations or interactive story
humor episodes. On the third hand, she had never mentioned Josh Burbank, the Story
Police, the Staircase Room, or any of that other stuff, so it was quite possibly genuine.
Rowena was glad that not only had she found her long-missing friend, but she had finally
gotten a quest of her own after far too long.
Suddenly, a large spiral staircase appeared out of nowhere, and a young man wearing fake moose antlers on his head ran frantically down it. Once he saw Andrea and Rowena, he ran off and hid behind Andrea's horse, which didn't look too pleased to be in his proximity. "Oh no!" shouted Andrea. "Not again!" She plugged her ears, closed her eyes, and started singing loudly. "Who are you?" asked Rowena sternly. "What are you doing here? Andrea is in a fragile state right now, she doesn't need people showing up out of nowhere." "I'm Josh Burbank! You've got to help me! The Story Police are after me!" "You're a fictional character," said Rowena, raising her eyebrows. Josh seemed slightly surprised at this remark. "Um... aren't all of us?" "No, we're not. Clearly, if you think you're Josh Burbank, you're insane. Especially because you're wearing fake antlers on your head." Josh looked at her uncomprehendingly. "Um... I'm not wearing any antlers on my head. You must be the one who's insane." "No, you are wearing antlers on your head. See?" She felt the antlers with her hand, trying to move it through them but being blocked. "Now go away." "You've got to be kidding," said Josh. He moved his hand up to touch the side of his head. It went right through the antlers. Rowena was stunned. "Clearly, this must be the result of evil magic!" She pulled out her sword and charged Josh. Her sword passed right through him with no effect. "See?" said Josh. "You're obviously insane." Just then, a group of large men in blue uniforms rushed down the stairway. They pointed laser pistols at Josh. "This is the story police!" shouted the man in front. "You're under arrest!" "Shouldn't you be doing something about her?" said Josh, pointing to Rowena. "She thinks I'm wearing antlers on my head and that she's not a fictional character."
