Astra couldn’t help but blush. This was a very awkward moment. Checker’s shook her head, saying, “Deny what? What’s going on?” But Astra was at a loss for words. She wished that she could come clean right there, and tell Checkers everything. But that would be the stupidest choice you’d ever make, the alien voice rang through her head.“Astra? What’s going on? Is everything alright?” “Yes, of course,” the princess forced herself to reply. “But...”That’s when Checker’s sixth sense kicked in. Something was definitely not alright. They were both in danger. Somehow the words contained in the book were having a far greater impact than she’d imagined. She had of course known that there was hidden power in the verses, from her earlier recitals, but now the pieces to the ominous puzzle were beginning to come together. The look in Astra’s eyes was that of complete desperation. Something was very wrong. The young glider turned away from the book, slowly and cautiously, the events of the last few days racing through her mind. What was going on?Astra was picking up on Checker’s misgivings, and once again tried to assure her that nothing was wrong. But the look in her eyes contradicted her words. She was a good actress, but not that good. Checker’s heart began to race. “Belboz is more than he appears to be, isn’t he?” The fact that Belboz and the Dragon were one and the same was still beyond the girl. But the idea that the two were connected in some way was beginning to make more and more sense. And the man’s relationship with Astra obviously went deeper than she had previously guessed.Astra was becoming exasperated by all of this, and the mental tap forced onto her mind was only making it worse. “Checkers, please, there’s no need to make any wild assumptions...” But before she could finish the sentence she swooned forward and collapsed to the floor of the mage’s chamber. Checkers rushed to her side.
