Seeing, to her surprise, that Fred and Alexis were being treated as honoured guests, Astra decided it should be safe to emerge from the thickets, whilst the cowardly Bob remained in hiding. When they saw her, Fred and Alexis were overjoyed.

"Astra! We thought you were dead!" Fred exclaimed. "Apparently the locals were satisfied with one of us being sacrificed to the plant- creature, so when it swallowed you they took us away for Mundingu, which apparently is a post-sacrifice feast."

"I've killed the plant-thing," Astra said. "I hope they won't mind."

  1. It turned out that the natives were now in awe of her. No-one had ever before returned alive (if hairless) from being sacrificed to the plant-monster.
  2. The natives were angry. Sacrifices were supposed to stay sacrificed, not return from the dead.
