Belboz's Price is Not a Monetary One

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 41705

Belboz raised an eyebrow, as though auditioning for the role of Spock in Star Trek, though he was not really very surprised. After all, Fred had previously hinted at making such an offer. [35907] "Have you discussed this with Astra?," he asked. "She might be disconcerted to find out that you view her as a chattel to be bought and sold."

Fred reddened. "You know that's not at all how I view her," he said. "And of course I haven't discussed this with her."

"She did something noble on your behalf, Lord Frederigo. She might not thank you for trying to nullify it. You would effectively be rejecting her gift to you, which might seem rude to her.

"Also try looking at this from my own point of view. Is it so wrong for a lonely old man to crave some female companionship? That is worth a lot to me. Indeed I can tell you that, if you were intending to offer me money, then I am not interested. I am content to remain a poor country mage."

"So what would you be interested in?"

"Do you have any sisters, Lord Fred? If you do, how old are they?"

  1. "You disgust me! I am not trading my sister for Astra." "Of course not. I was just making a point."
  2. "I have one sister: Rowena. She is eighteen."
