Taking the Left Fork

Astra smiled. "Thank you for the compliment. I think it was lucky for me too. Left it is, then." So they began following the leftward path, which led them through the wood that carpeted the foot of the glen.

Fred and Astra were well-armed, each having a sword , a set of daggers and a sling. [40871] However there had not been time for Wedge to change the clothing that he had originally given them into something more suitable for adventuring in an unfamiliar and possibly dangerous land . Fred wore a pair of ankle-length trousers (which had recently replaced knee-breeches as fashionable attire in his home reality), with a belt for his weapons, a shirt, socks and boots; Astra had on a simple knee-length dress, also with a weapons belt, and a pair of shoes.

After following the path for about a quarter of an hour:

1. They reached the end of the glen and began to climb its rearward slope.
2. They heard rustling noises from the undergrowth. There must be a sizeable animal hidden within it.
3. They saw someone approaching from the opposite direction.
