The dark, damp passageway turned into a path of steep steps. Astra carried Velus because the way had become too dangerous for his little doggy body.
Soon they came to a small, grass lined ledge. In the upper corner a small spiderweb had snared a couple bugs. Astra could see a daddy longlegs feasting on a cockroach.
Past the ledge was a huge canyon. It was about five hundred feet wide and curved out of sight to the right and left. The far side was part of a platform that formed the inner circumfence of the canyon below. The top of the platform was level with Astra's boots. It was smooth as polished glass and bore dozens of scorch marks. She breifly wondered how light shot through this whole area. Then she realized that anyone with enough magic to transform people could do something as simple as no-source lighting.
"Let me guess." she said to the dog. "Flying tunnel. Dragon exercises his wings without being shot at by valiant archers."
One yap. Yep!
"So what was the point of bringing me down here?" Astra mused.

"Is the dragon supposed to stop right under me for some reason?" Velus barks yes. Astra wondered how he knew that.

"Is there some sort of invisible bridge in front of me?" Velus barks yes. Astra wondered how he knew that.

Suddenly a mighty force pushes Astra and Velus over the edge.
