Astra Establishes Communication with the Dog

Though, as a medieval princess, Astra had not had the advantage of
watching the classic
children's TV series from the 1950s, "Champion the Wonder Horse", in which
the boy could
always miraculously understand the barks of Rebel the dog, nevertheless
she realised
that this dog was trying to tell her something. So she gave up wondering
why the dragon
had apparently treated her so generously in terms of equipment and
provisions, and
concentrated on the dog.
Through a system of 'yes' and 'no' barks Astra quickly set up, she learnt that this dog was actually a kidnapped teenager who had lived on a farm not far from the entrance to the caverns. Apparently the dragon sometimes changed the people he kidnapped into animals! She supposed that she herself could be considered fortunate not to have met that fate.
