"It took a lot of work," Vincent said, "but as you can see he has been
completely restored, both in body and mind. So I have kept my side of the
bargain, and therefore I expect you to keep yours."
Meanwhile Fred was looking at Astra open-mouthed. The gown that she had worn before her latest change was clearly no longer appropriate, and Vincent had replaced it by shorts and a halter top, so that the extent of her transformation was immediately obvious. "Astra, is that really you?" he asked. "Dr Vincent told me that he had 'improved' you, but I never dreamt..." "Yes, it's me," Astra rasped, suppressing an irrational urge to blame Fred for her predicament. "I don't know if he's told you, but I have sworn a binding oath to be his servant. It was the price for getting my arms back, which he had amputated." She decided not to mention that she had also arranged Fred's own restoration as part of the deal. She didn't want him feeling beholden to her. She turned to Vincent. "What you haven't yet told me, Doctor - or should I say 'Master'? - is what sort of work you want me to do for you."
