Death and Despair Attack

With brutish snarls of exuberance, the two monstrosities sprang toward the fortress of their mistress's foe. They covered the distance with three leaps and landed on the wall outside, the razor-sharp talons on their claws sinking deep into the stone. Then the beasts began to climb the wall, making astonishing time for creatures so massive, quickly, making their way to the top of the fortress. The dark cloud trailed behind more slowly, the fiery leashes still connected to her beasts' collars.

The top of the fortress was deserted, with only a huge iron double-door. With a yowl, Death and Despair swung their massive armored tails at the doors once - twice - thrice, each blow deforming the metal. On the fourth swing, the doors crumpled and came off their hinges.

With a howl of triumph, the two carnage-beasts shoved the remains of the doors aside and entered, followed closely by Shiva. Inside the doorway, they found:

1. Another door, larged and more massive than the last.
2. Vincent, waiting with a smile on his face.
3. An old man in a robe, with a surprised look on his face.
4. A pretty young girl, laying fast asleep.
5. A platoon of well-armed soldiers.
6. Two more carnage beasts, connected to a grey cloud by leashes of ice.
7. A passageway leading deep into the fortress.
8. Nothing.
