The Improvised Punt

"There isn't any risk of the chest sinking, is there?" Frederica asked. "If it finished at the bottom of the river, any hope of being restored to our rightful forms would be sunk too."

"It's mostly wood, with brass inlays. Even with our weight, I think it should float comfortably enough."

So, having used Astra's knife/sword to chop off some suitable branches to use as poles, they brought their "punt" to the river bank, launched it and leapt in.

1. They got safely acroos the river.
2. But the chest did not float nearly as high as Astra had expected. It soon began taking on water.
3. But the magic that imbued the chest did not seem to react well with water. Within a few seconds multi-coloured sparks began to appear. Then...
4. But out in mid-stream the current turned out to be much stronger than it had been close to the bank.
