Once they finally reached the dock area, the three sisters finally came to
a halt, gasping for air. "I don't supposed you want to explain why we had to beat up a constable and run for our lives, do you?" Louise asked wryly. Briefly, Sigourney told them about the arrival of the soldiers from Prince Karo's kingdom, and Jossim's friend at the Nyriad. "Well, it's lucky you found us when you did," Thelma said, "We were just about to take our peppers and turnips and head back to the Whale and Shark." "Well, we can't stay here any longer," Sigourney said. "We may as well go find our ship." It didn't take the girls long to find the ship (although between keeping watch for Karo's soldiers and fending off unwanted advances by lonely sailors, it seemed longer). The Nyriad was a medium-sized merchant vessel, docked near the end of the wharf, that looked reasonably well- kept. Very soon, the three were sitting in the quarters of the ship's master, a rotund fellow named Haljon. "So, you're on the run from Karo, are ya?" he asked in his jolly manner. "Well, can't say's I blame ya - he's a bilge rat on two legs or there never was one." "So you'll take us on, then?" "Course I will," he said, waving a chubby hand. "This puts me an' ol' Jossim on even terms again, an' even if it didn't, I wouldn't wanna pass up a chance to give Karo the runaround. There's a guest cabin belowdecks you kin use - only got one, so you'll hafta share it. Ya kin roam about the ship all ya wants, but I'd stay outta sight til we leave port. An' don't worry none abouts my men - they'll all behave theyselves around ya, or they'll answer for it ta me!" "Thank you so much, Captain Haljon!" "Oh, pshaw! Now you'd best get stowed away - we sail tomorrow right after sunup." The three girls turned to leave, but Thelma stopped and asked, "By the way, Captain, where is the Nyriad headed to?"
