Fred was blinded by terror as he ran away through the tunnel. Not until he
had hidden himself in a deep crevice did he remember Velus and Astra. He felt deeply ashamed for having left them with that horrible dragon, yet he couldn't bring himself to get out from his hidingplace and go back after them. It was probably to late anyway. The dragon had fried them and would fry him as well if he went back there. As he cowered there in the crevice, trying to justify his cowardice, he saw something walk past.
