A Whispered Conspiracy

"That Professor Sabrum switched me again this morning." said Lena. She was a brown-haired girl with intensely dark eyes. "He did it just for his amusement I believe, the gangrenous old bastard. I say Violette, you're lucky you're Faredocious' daughter. No one dares punish you as they do the rest of us."

"I've taken my licks along with the rest of you!" Violette cried defensively. "Father's influence doesn't quite reach into every corner of the Academy. But as for Sabrum - there's been far too many complaints for him of late. And since the Board won't take action, I say we do it ourselves. He shan't be getting away with it this time."

"You have a plan?" whispered Nina, a chubby young redhead who idolized Violette and followed her everywhere.

"But of course!" Violette grinned. "You know the pilgrim-hogs they keep in the Laboratory? The ones that can rip a shelf of books apart in seconds?"

"Why yes." Nina said. "But the Laboratory's under lock and key at all times!"

Violette reached into the pocket of her coat and produced a large bronze inlaid key carved with floral decorations. "You mean this key?"

"Violette, that's brilliant!" Lena gasped. "But even if we get the pilgrim- hogs, what are we going to do with them?"

"Well, my original plan was just to set all the animals free. But that might have to wait till spring." Violette said. "For now, I'll just crawl into the ventilation ducts and set all the pilgrim-hogs loose in Sabrum's quarters!"

The other two girls giggled uncontrollably. "Can you imagine his face when they're taking his room apart?" laughed Nina. "But Violette, those ducts are really narrow! How are you going to fit through them?"

Violette produced another key. "This one's for the kitchen. With a little bit of elbow-grease..."

1. The plan proceeds as outlined.
2. The fat young student raises his head "I was only feigning sleep! I'll tell Sabrum everything! You wretched girls are in for a world of trouble!"
3. Suddenly Arquest, the girls' only male friend bursts into the room "There's commotion in the Old City! The Seal of the Ark has opened for the first time in 10,000 years! You've gotta come see!"
4. Quite unexpectedly, Violette is transported to the Dragon's Caves.
