Detection? You Betcha!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 37758

"As it happens, his possession of the Crystallic may help us to find him," Arkas said. "A magical artifact as powerful as that will give off a strong 'aura' allowing it to be located, if you know just what you are looking for. And thanks to my examination of it, I think that I do."

And back to the present, which now happens to be after dinner and Synizn's place, unaware that a certain good deed could perhaps come back to haunt them...

Fertal

"Hey Synizn," I call over to our host, who's been packing some gear for this upcoming trek. "By any chance should we be worried about the demifox tribe here about? Some packs of them had been scouring the city outside."

It had been curious that--if they'd somehow had figured out who'd kidnapped their "guests" earlier--those roving demifox parties hadn't known where to find Synizn's place. After all, from what I've learned from the native Synizn, he and the demifoxes weren't exactly loving neighbors. Point in fact, the captors of the native Fred and Astra had learned that they'd been sent to Synizn for aid. They'd probably figured out that Synizn really wanted the Crystallic and that Synizn had rounded up those demifoxes in order to get his hands on the Atlantian artifact.

"Oh, not really," the dragon mage says. "I keep switching bolt holes at random to keep my enemies around here guessing where I live. It's needful, I fear, in Walants."

Yeah, moving targets are generally harder to kill compared to stationary ones. Meaning that this house is just one of many places our former were-bear uses for living and working.

....

My, that has to be expensive....but effective. Probably the only reason why the gate greeter gave us information on where this universe's Synizn lay was because of me and my love. See, while I saw the greeter was tolerating our presence, he was fearful of our possible "Dark Elfin wrath". Remember, the "Dark" in "Dark Elves" need not only deal with eye coloration. Basically, our supposed reputation scared it out of him (without us meaning to). Guess the greeter had stumbled acrossed Synizn's true where abouts and would have, under other circumstances, hit us up for a bribe so he'd tell us. Not now. Probably thought that the native Synizn had bought his plot (just didn't know it yet) and the greeter wanted NOTHING to do with it (bad for a mortal's health, getting involved in "Unseelie" kind of business)...

Nevermind.

Anyway, he goes onto thank me on informing him about that the demifox folk were restless.

"Guess I'd be wise to use a teleport spell to move us all towards the spot in town for supplies," he shrugs, gathering up magical herbs and such for the spell. "If Tiamat wills it, I'd like to be able to return to this place and use it again. Just walking out the door might mean I and the others would be spotted."

Yeah, while some of us are going to be disguised, not all of us are going to be that. Namely the dragon mages are going to be going as they are, of course.

Think it's dragon ego, but then again (at least for the native Synizn) I can see how one could be tired of not looking as they should look. Meaning that after so long as unwillingly wearing the form of a lycanthropic infected mountain man (a form he'd hated, really). A disguise he'd dawned against Minestus which had been worn too long....

He'd wear his human form, but as soon as this was all done he wanted to be back in his old scaly form. His birth form....

Cannot fault him that. Cruel fate had left me in the form of a human being, and I now praise God that I'm in my rightful form! An elf....

....

Anyway, that all said Synizn uses various herbs not found on Terra Prime (and thus the reason why Terra Prime mages aren't up on teleportation spells), our heroes arrive magically behind an abandoned inn, out of sight of prying eyes....

  1. But unaware that the Crystallic, having been used, had given off a tell tale sign for trackers....
