Oh boy! Stacy thought. She hadn't yet had a chance to look at
herself in a proper mirror, but from the (admittedly none too clear)
reflection in the window of the subway car she had felt that she was
probably in her mid twenties. Now this girl of eighteen or so was claiming
to be her daughter. That must put Stacy herself in her mid thirties at the
very least, more probably her early forties. She felt as though she had
suddenly lost ten to fifteen years out of her life.
Seeing that the girl was still looking at her anxiously, Stacy smiled and said: "It's nothing serious. Just cramp in both feet." If this was really her daughter, then she'd rather not worry her by letting on that she had lost her memory.
