Of course, they don't find the dragon right away.
It couldn't be that easy.
They encounter floating shards of Memory that pursued them through three caves, the kitchens and an accepella singing of 'Mary Bench Was A Three Legged Wench Who Hopped Along The Shore' by several recognized pirates.
There was the Ladder Maze Of Ticonderoga that Velus led them out of because he could smell the cheese at the end.
Fortunately a storeroom was in the list of their adventures, where everyone ate messily, upgraded their armor (or in some cases got armor) and Velus left a little present in the corner.
Finally, after a recreation of the Chess Battle Of Emry, they found the dragon. Playing Poker. With a Fire-Lore, a Roc, the God Of Stone and a little old man who farted a lot.
The three looked at each other.

  1. Retreat for now.
  2. Attempt to open a peaceful dialogue with the dragon. Maybe with his friends here he wouldn't kill them.
  3. Wait till someone leaves and ask to be dealt in.
  4. Before Fred, Exotica and Velus could decide what to do, the dragon saw them.
