Astra Wakes

The other woman, though equally good-looking, was a total contrast. There was a certain hardness to her, a suggestion that here was a cunning operator. She had dark hair and brown eyes. Her clothes, a silky red pleated skirt and a tight black leather bodice, seemed designed to accentuate rather than minimise her body's generous curves, but Astra suspected that any man who was misled into making an unwelcome advance would quickly learn to regret it. This was a woman who knew how to look after herself.

"Hello," she said, unaware that she was now speaking a different language from her native tongue. The mage's spell on her had progressed that far but - luckily for Astra - no further. "I am called Astra. Who are you?"

1. The Dimensional Shambler who had deposited Angela and Charmina in this world had ensured that they could speak the local language.
2. Angela and Charmina could not understand Astra, though ironically they would have understood her original tongue with no trouble. (They hadn't understood what the mage had been saying either, but it had been obvious that he was up to no good.)
3. Charmina could not understand Astra, but Angela could.
