"Damn!" Astra said, brushing mold off herself (at least it had served to
cushion her fall). "I should have realised that it wouldn't be that easy
and ought to have remained more alert for traps. Are you all right,
Velus?" He woofed to indicate that he was.
She retrieved the sword and shield, which had fallen through with her, and then looked around. Just enough light filtered down from the armoury above for her to see her surroundings. From the disgusting state of the chamber, she realised that it must have been so long since anybody had dropped in - literally - that the place had been forgotten about. "For there to be this much mold, there must be something for it to live on," she mused, not realising that it had had a diet of a couple of janitors. (Even their skeletons had been wholly consumed over the decades.) Then she noticed that one thing that the mold had been living on was the heavy wooden door that had been meant to prevent anyone from escaping. It had been almost completely eaten away and what remained could easily be pushed aside. "We're in luck, Velus," she said. "Come on!" She would have been less pleased if she had noticed the as yet tiny, but gradually growing, patch of mold that was adhering to:
