"Why are you so nervous all of a sudden, anyway?" she asks as you trot
along. "We've fought hordes of monsters." "And baked a cake, I know," you reply. "But I think you failed to notice that all I was doing the entire time was providing you adequate lighting with my handy torch, as you butchered the freakish masses. Oh sure, my cunning (and hand-eye coordination) got us out of a few tight spots, but against a Dragon!? I dunno." "You underestimate yourself," she flatters you. "With my brawn and wit, and your torch and cunning, the Dragon doesn't stand a chance!"Your spirits seem suddenly uplifted. "Thank you, Astra!" Astra laughs inwardly. True,she thinks. Against a Dragon, You wouldn't last but five seconds, if lucky. But she doesn't have the heart to tell you that. At least she's a good liar.By now, you've closed the gap between you and Fred by 50 yards. You catch another glimpse of him, it's more like 30 yards now. 25. 15. 10. 3. "GOTCHA!" Astra swipes a muscular leg out at Fred and he stumbles to the ground, head-over-heals, his armour clanking loudly. He quickly leaps back to his feet and snickers at you and Astra."How could you betray everything you've lived for, Fred?" you ask him. "How could you side up with the Dragon?" "You don't know anything about him!" Fred screams. "He's just misunderstood! Don't you talk bad about him! You don't even know him at all!"Astra suddenly formulates a plan. "You're quite right Fred!" she says excitedly. "Do you think you could introduce us? I'd sure like get to know him before I make any decision about slaying him or not. I'm really sorry about...all that stuff I did. I really like you. I like you and I want to be around you because you're such a likable person. And - wow - I've always wanted to meet a real live dragon! It must be so cool!" Fred glares at the princess, suspicion in his eyes. "I'm not a fool," he scowls. Your stomach sinks. Such a bold-faced lie (literally- bold-faced. Get it!? YUK! YUK! YUK! HAR! HAR! HAR!), even told to forgetful old Fred, is sure to be seen for what it is. "OF COURSE I'LL INTRODUCE YOU!" Oh...well, good! "OH GEE GOLLY! I JUST KNEW YOU'D COME AROUND, BOOBS! C'MON, I'LL LEAD THE WAY! TEE HEE!"
